Air Show at NAS Jacksonville this Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Folks living along the river south of downtown will notice the sky is a bit more full than usual this weekend.

The 2010 NAS Jax Air Show is Saturday and Sunday, featuring, as always, the famous Blue Angels.

Gates open at 9 a.m. each day, and the action gets underway at 10 with flight demonstrations, aerobatics, a jet-powered truck and plenty of good old noise.

Drivers can enter at the NAS Jacksonville main gate on U.S. 17.

Parking and admission are free, and there will be aircraft on display, merchandise and concessions and a Kid's Zone -- also free.

There will be five hours of speed and spins leading up to the Blue Angels at 3 p.m. The Air Show website has a complete lineup of aircraft and performers scheduled for the weekend.

Everyone attending will have to pass through a metal detector.

HALLOWEEN EVENTS:

'The Wizard of Oz' Showing for Free Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In a bit of Technicolor irony, somewhere over the rainbow is somewhere under the bridge this weekend.

Saturday evening, the Riverside Arts Market is showing the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz" under the Fuller Warren Bridge in Riverside.

The fun gets underway at 6:30 when the entertainment cranks up and food sales begin.

The proverbial curtains go up at 7, and when the movie is over, music videos will play on the big screen as the crowd disperses.

The weather will be nice, not that it matters, since the bridge provides a roof for the showing. Temperatures will be heading into the 50s as the night progresses, but will likely remain in the 60s during the movie.

The movie is free and parking is free; bring your own chairs and blankets.
