Sam’s Club Brings Christmas Joy to Local Children’s Miracle Network Kids

The Christmas season is not a time that most people want to spend in the emergency room.  The kids who had to make that trip to Shand’s Pediatric Emergency Room on Monday, December 20th, got a little surprise from some local Sam’s Club employees.  Yesterday, fourteen of their employees made a special delivery of toys and some Christmas cheer.  For the past month, all three Jacksonville Sam’s Club locations collected $1400 worth of toys that were donated to Children’s Miracle  Network.

City Facility Holiday Closures

Most city government offices and facilities will be closed in observance of Christmas on Friday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 27 and in observance of New Year’s Eve on Friday, Dec. 31. 

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Gives to Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville Clinic

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is awarding much needed equipment to Volunteers in Medicine at 3:30 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 21, 2010 at the Firehouse Subs in San Marco. Volunteers in Medicine benefits with the donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) worth $2,000.

PrepChefs to Support Sulzbacher Center's Aftercare Program

When Qennita Taylor graduates from the Sulzbacher Center and moves into her new apartment with her four children, she won’t have to worry about where her first week’s worth of dinners will come from.  PrepChefs will provide Ms. Taylor with her first seven days worth of dinners as part of the company’s new ”Freezer Full of Food” initiative with the Sulzbacher Center.

Justice Coalition MakesPlea for Help from Public

The Justice Coalition is in a financial crisis and may be forced to close its doors after 15 years of helping innocent victims of violent crime.  The Justice Coalition staff and Board of Directors will be joined by innocent victims of violent crime, Sheriff John Rutherford, and community leaders as they make a public plea for help to save the non-profit organization that has helped so many victims throughout the years.  The Justice Coalition was itself a victim earlier this year, when their bookkeeper and office manager stole more than a hundred thousand dollars from the organization.  She pleaded guilty and is currently serving a three-year prison sentence.

Jacksonville Weekly Gas Price Update, 12/13

Average retail gasoline prices in Jacksonville have risen 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.92/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.96/g, according to gasoline price website JacksonvilleGasPrices.com.
