Residents Invited to Donate Gently Used Shoes to Support Disaster Relief in Japan

In the wake of Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami, Jane Nation is calling upon local residents in its drive to collect at least 100 pair of shoes for Soles4Souls. The effort is part of the charity’s “11 IN 11” campaign to collect and distribute 11 million shoes in 2011 to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters.

“Shoes are perennial favorites of most women — we love shopping for and commenting on each other’s shoes — online and off,” said Karen Moran, community manager for, an online opinion-sharing community for women. “When we learned about the great work being done by Soles4Souls, we knew we could count on our Janes to literally step in to help. We all have a few pair of shoes taking up valuable closet space, and knowing that someone in need could benefit from them makes it easy to donate.”

Local residents are encouraged to bring their gently used shoes to Jane Nation’s offices at St. John & Partners, 5220 Belfort Rd., Suite 400, in Jacksonville through the end of April. Donations can also be mailed directly to the charity.

The organization gives away one pair of shoes to a person in need every seven seconds. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 12 million pairs of shoes.

“We need partners like Jane Nation to get behind our 11 IN 11 campaign and get a little crazy this year. Donating shoes is one of the most simple, yet profound gifts you can make, because it will greatly improve someone’s life in the most difficult of times,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls.

Moran will provide a periodic tally of shoes collected and updates on the drive on For more information, contact Moran at or visit the Soles4Souls website at
