The 2011 Spirit of America tour is making it's way to Jacksonville this year.  For more than 30 years, Spirit of America has been a truly unforgettable experience.  A historical drama produced from soldiers'  real accounts, letters, and diaries, bringing to life the history of generations of American soldiers. As you witness breathtaking music, amazing ceremonial drills, dramatic renactments of real life stories Spirit of America is going to show Jacksonville how the army's history is also our nation's history.

All kinds of crazy things happen in July and one of them is it's NATIONAL HOT DOG MONTH ! The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that Americans consume over 7 billion hot dogs a year.  Yes, I said 7 billion!!!!!  A typical American on average eats 60 hot dogs annually.  It's commonly overlooked as one of the top comfort foods.

FC JAX Destroyers and Children’s Miracle Network to Host “A Night to Remember”
The FC JAX Destroyers and the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are pleased to announce a joint effort in hosting a community event on July 21 that is sure to be a night to remember.

The FC JAX Destroyers’ July 21st match against the Central Florida Kraze will feature Jacksonville local Haley Richardson, the 2011 Florida Champion representative for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the coin toss to begin the game. Richardson was treated at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for Osteosercoma and was selected as the state representative for her bravery battling and overcoming the cancer. Miracle Children will also be present and sing the national anthem as well as serve as the ball boys and girls during the game.

Innovative Internships Open Job Opportunities For Floridians Overcoming Mental Illness

Floridians who have been treated for mental illnesses will have the opportunity to be employed by private businesses under a new partnership between the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Florida Department of Education’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR).


Twenty-five paid internships will be available within the next few months for persons who are ready to go to work as part of their treatment and recovery from serious mental illnesses. Typically the unemployment rate of adults with significant mental health issues is extremely high – around 80 percent.
