Teen Armed Robbery Suspect Caught by Victim and Police Dog

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A suspect made the mistake of attempting an armed robbery at a place frequented by police.

The incident began around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Gate store on Hendricks Avenue.

A man who had finished pumping gas was sitting in his driver's seat talking on his phone when someone walked up, pointed a gun at him, and told him to hang up the phone and give him money, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report.

The victim told police that as he started reaching for his wallet, the suspect put the gun back in his pocket, so the victim grabbed him.

They reportedly began fighting, going through the parking lot and into Hendricks Avenue.

While they were in the street, an officer with a K-9 unit drove up and saw the fight, the report indicates.

The suspect then took off running, going behind the stores across Hendricks from the gas station.

The victim followed, as did the K-9 unit, who helped detain the suspect until the officer arrived to take him into custody.

Michael Jacob Veal, 18, was arrested on a charge of armed robbery.

He remains in jail on no bond.
