Fridays – $5 Fridays – Every Friday, come to MOSH to enjoy $5 admission and extended hours. The museum will be open late every Friday until 8 p.m. (Note: Additional discounts or coupons are not permitted.)

 

Fridays – Cosmic Concerts – Experience total-sensory entertainment as laser lights, high-def images and digital sound collide to create a Cosmic Concert!  The Bryan-Gooding Planetarium rocks every Friday night with Cosmic Concert laser light shows at 5, 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Tickets are available at www.moshplanetarium.org  or at the door.  Tickets are $5 per person per show; laser glasses cost $1. 

 

Through December 23 – Season of Light – Escape the holiday stress by relaxing in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium.  Season of Light traces the development of many of the world’s endearing and familiar holiday customs, and how they involve lighting up the winter season – from a burning yule log and sparkling Christmas tree to the lighting of the Menorah and luminaries. Season of Light also explores a possible astronomical origin of the Star of Bethlehem.  Tickets are $5 in addition to museum admission.  View the trailer at www.moshplanetarium.org1 p.m. Mon-Sat and 1:20 p.m. Sun through Dec. 18; 1 and 4 p.m. Mon-Sat and 1:20 p.m. Sun Dec. 19-23.

 

Through December 23 – Laser Holiday Cosmic Concert – Enjoy brilliant lasers and fanciful graphics, set to some of your favorite holiday tunes from classics like Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” to modern favorites like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You.”  You've never seen the season sparkle like this!  Tickets are $5 in addition to museum admission.  Please note: The 5 p.m. Friday show is $5 but does not require museum admission.  5 p.m. Fri, Sat and Sun and Noon Sat through December 18; Noon Mon-Sat, 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday Dec. 19-23. 

 

Through July 8 – Victory Begins at Home: Florida During World War II This signature exhibit appearing in The Loft Gallery on the third floor transports visitors back to the war years to learn about Floridians in service, military recruitment and training, the German U-boat threat, rationing and more.  Free-standing display kiosks from the Museum of Florida History provide interpretation through text, video, and images, while rare WWII-era objects from the collections of MOSH, the Jacksonville Historical Society, and Guest Curator Stephen Cargile bring the homefront to life. 

 

Through May 13 – Strange Matter – This hands-on exhibit delves into the world of materials science, or the study of “stuff.”  A dynamic blend of physics, chemistry and engineering, this field of research studies how things are put together, how they might be improved, or how they can change to create brand new materials.  From metals to crystals to magnets to glass, Strange Matter will give visitors the chance to dig into the science behind the materials they use every day. 

 

 

DECEMBER

 

December 7 – Senior Days – Senior Days is a special program for members of the senior citizen community that includes a coffee and donut reception, a live star show in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium, and free time to explore the museum.  The program starts at 9:45 a.m. and is $6 per senior citizen.  Reservations are required and are based on availability. Call 396.MOSH (6674), ext. 226 for details.

 

December 9 – Cosmic Concerts – Experience total-sensory entertainment as laser lights, high-def images and digital sound collide to create a Cosmic Concert!  Laser Holiday at 5 p.m., Laser Jimmy Buffett at 6 p.m., LaseRetro  at 7 p.m., and Laser Hynotica at 8 p.m.  Tickets are available at www.moshplanetarium or at the door.  Tickets are $5 per person per show; laser glasses cost $1. 

 

December 10 – Science of the Circus – The talented performers of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® astound audiences across the country with daring acts that require concentration, patience, timing, dexterity and courage!  Would you be surprised to discover that The Greatest Show On Earth® also enables us to see many of the laws and principles of physics brought to life by these skillful performers?  Science of the Circus lets you explore these science concepts first hand in a fun 30-minute seminar. See performances in the JEA Science Theater at MOSH at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Included with MOSH admission. 

 

December 14 – Pre-K Day – Bring your little ones over to MOSH the second Wednesday of every month for exclusive programming for preschool-aged children and their caregivers.  From 9 to 11 a.m. admission is only $5 per person (ages 3 & up) and includes the planetarium show, Seasons of Light, at 10 a.m.  Call 904.396.MOSH (6674) ext. 226 for details.

 

December 15 – MOSH After Dark: Holiday Music Under the Stars Learn about the stars that shine over Jacksonville while enjoying a live holiday musical performance under the stars of the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium.   The featured music act is the University of North Florida’s Classic Brass Quartet under the direction of UNF Music Professor, Dr. Marc Dickman.  The museum will open at 6 p.m. for guests to explore; a star show will take place in the planetarium at 7 p.m. immediately followed by the live musical performance; rooftop stargazing and wine tasting will take place after the performance (weather-permitting). Music Under the Stars is part of MOSH After Dark, a fun series of adult programs presented each month and is a cultural collaboration between the Museum of Science & History and Friday Musicale.  Register online at www.themosh.org or call 904.396.MOSH (6674), ext. 226.

December 19-21 & 28-30 – MOSH Winter Camps – Need a little more time to finish up your holiday shopping?  Send your kindergartners through sixth graders to MOSH Winter Camp where a new adventure awaits each day! Camp topics are Candy Science (December 19), Elf Workshop (December 20), Passport to Florida (December 21), Strange Matter (December 28), LEGO Camp: Architect Adventure (December 29) and Countdown to New Year’s (December 30).  Cost is $40 per day or $180 for all six days.  MOSH Members receive a discount.  Call 396.MOSH (6674), ext. 226 for details or register online at www.themosh.org

 

December 19 – 21: SHZAM Camp – MOSH has partnered with the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens to offer an enriching, engaging and unique holiday camp with an equally unique name – SHZAM Camp.  This Science, History, Zoo and Art Museum Camp has a shared theme of Passport to Florida. Students will spend one day at each of the institutions (Monday – The Cummer; Tuesday – Jacksonville Zoo; Wednesday – MOSH), using science to unravel mysteries in the art world, the animal world and the field of archeology/paleontology.  Cost is $120 for non-members and $105 for members of any of the three organizations.  Register online at www.themosh.org
