Parents looking for ways to stretch a dollar in this challenging economy are in luck.  On Saturday, February 5, the Museum of Science & History will partner with St. Johns River Water Management District and the City of Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board to host the annual Water Education Festival, a free admission day.

Duval County Public Schools is providing winter packets to the community to continue enriching the academic success of all students.

All K-12 students, parents and community members are encouraged to log onto www.duvalschools.org and print out grade appropriate materials for students during the winter break. Math, reading and science worksheets are available, as well as links to online assistance for all students.

Jacksonville Country Day School is hosting a holiday sports camp for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade during the winter break from school. The camp is open to children throughout the Jacksonville community.

You Can Change a Child’s Life by Becoming a Foster Parent

Nearly 400 children currently live in foster homes in Duval, Nassau and Clay counties. Every week, about 20 children enter child welfare in the tri-county area. These children are removed from their homes for a planned, temporary period of time.

Some are placed with relatives, some are placed in group homes, and many are placed in foster homes where they will be cared for by loving, nurturing and supportive foster parents.

Through January 9 – Prehistoric PredatorsWalk alongside the dinosaurs!  Encounter a soaring Pteranodon with a 23-foot wingspan, a Maiasaura mother caring for her hatchlings, a Pachycephalosaurus, Apatosaurus, Albertosaurus and more in the limited-engagement exhibit, Prehistoric Predators. Dinosaur models are handcrafted based on fossil records and equipped with internal computers, making them look – and sound – like the magnificent beasts that once roamed Earth!
