Stop Bullying Now! One Mile Fun Walk!, May 21

River Point Behavioral Health in Jacksonville, Florida and Mental Health America of Northeast Florida (MHA) joined forces to organize a Stop Bullying Now! One Mile Fun Walk to take a stand against bullying in our community and schools. The event will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 8:30a.m. and will begin and end at the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) in Jacksonville.

The Blood Alliance (TBA), Northeast Florida’s sole provider of blood to area hospitals, has joined forces with THE PLAYERS and area country clubs to save lives in our community.  Donate at one of TBA’s Country Club Challenge Blood Drives and be automatically entered into a random drawing for one of 40 pairs of tickets to THE PLAYERS!  In addition, the Country Club with the most donations will earn each donor who donated at that location a $25 gift certificate to Woody’s Bar-B-Q.  There’s more, everyone who registers to donate will also be automatically entered into a random drawing for a 2010 smart car* from the smart car center Jacksonville, a Brumos Company.

Free Asthma Summit Wednesday

The Issue:

  • Jacksonville’s emergency room visits and death rate from asthma are significantly higher than the state and national average. 
  • Duval County has had the most number of pediatric asthma deaths in the past three years for all Florida counties.
  • Asthma is the leading cause of hospitalization for children in Duval County and the number one reason kids miss school, resulting in missed work for parents and mounting financial burdens.

Duval County Emergency Management Earns National Reaccreditation

The City of Jacksonville/Duval County Emergency Management team has become one of the first local jurisdictions to earn its reaccreditation from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). 

Register Now to Participate in the 22nd Annual Wolfson Children’s Hospital Bass Tournament

Register for the 22nd Annual Wolfson Children’s Hospital Bass Tournament, which benefits patients of Wolfson Children’s Hospital. This premier fishing event will take place at the City Dock in Palatka, Florida the “bass fishing capital of the world.” Registration will still be accepted from 2:00 am until safe light launch the morning of May 19, 2011. Youth Win Immunization PSA Contest

Each year in the United States, we lose 1,070 people to meningitis and 4,590 people to cervical cancer caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). In an effort to spread the word about these vaccine-preventable diseases and raise awareness among teens, Brunet-García Advertising sponsored the Florida Bureau of Immunization’s You Call the Shots public service announcement (PSA) contest; inviting youth ages 11 to 18 to produce and enter a 30-second  PSA highlighting the importance of HPV and meningitis vaccinations.
