Blessing of the Animals to take place this weekend | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This Sunday, pets will have the chance to be blessed at the annual "Blessing of the Animals" at All Saints Episcopal Church.
The blessings will take place in the San Marco church's courtyard at 6 p.m. on October 7.
Animals of all shapes and size and their owners are invited to attend the special gathering.
Pets must be on leashes or in kennels to receive a blessing from church leaders. Admission is free.
The special service is in addition to the regular 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services taking place Sunday.
Fr. Tom Deppe, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, plans to bring his dogs, Pete and new puppy Andy, to the blessing. His dogs are named after Peter and Andrew, among the first disciples to be called by Jesus in the Gospel of Mark.
Deppe said, "Pets are like family to our parishioners, and this service recognizes that.
The Blessing of the Animals service honors St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
