SJEDS Third Grader starts TEAMS FOR TORNADOES | Schools

Title (Max 100 Characters)

When San Jose Episcopal Day School (SJEDS)Third Grader Miriam Abikhaled heard about the tornado victims in Hackleburg, Alabama, she knew she had to do something.  Abikhaled, who has relatives in Alabama, was compelled to help the victims of the only F-5 tornado to hit Alabama during the tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011.  Hackleburg, a town of only 1500, was completely demolished.  While larger cities, like Tuscaloosa, were receiving a lot of national and regional attention, not much was being done to help with residents of Hackleburg.

Miriam adds, “ When I heard how Hackleburg was completely destroyed, it broke my heart!  Close to 30 out of 31 businesses are gone.  Many lives have been lost.  I just felt I had to do something to help.”

On Friday, May 20, SJEDS students who donate a $1.00 or more for TEAMS FOR TORNADOES may wear their favorite team t-shirt or jersey to school, a very special treat.  SJEDS students traditionally wear uniforms to school every day. The Abikhaled Family will match the funds raised by SJEDS students.  The monies raised will benefit Hackleburg Helping Hands.
