JSCA Inaugural World Cup Soccer Tournament

Adult soccer players throughout Northeast Florida are encouraged to register to play in the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association (JSCA) inaugural World Cup soccer tournament, which will begin July 23 at The Bolles School. The JSCA World Cup is a two-weekend tournament boasting “everything soccer” for all ages with an international flair. The tournament will feature soccer matches between area soccer players, with each team representing one of Jacksonville’s eight Sister Cities, all for a claim at the JSCA World Cup title.

The JSCA World Cup soccer tournament will be held at Hodges Field located at The Bolles School during the last two weekends in July—July 23-24 and July 30-31— beginning with first and second round matches and ending with a championship game. A kick-off ceremony will be held on July 22 at 7 p.m.

“For our inaugural year, we are inviting local players and teams to represent Jacksonville’s eight Sister Cities in this competition,” said Robert Peek, President of Jacksonville Sister Cities Association. “In subsequent years, our goal is to bring soccer players and teams from each of our Sister Cities to compete in a World Cup style event.”

The tournament is open to men’s teams or single players over the age of 18. At registration, players may select which Jacksonville Sister City team they want to join and represent, selecting among Curitiba, Brazil; Bahia Blanca, Argentina; Changwon City, South Korea; Murmansk, Russia; Nantes, France; Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, South Africa; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Yingkou, China. Registration is $50 for Beaches Adult Soccer League Members and $75 non-Beaches Adult Soccer League players.

“This year’s soccer event is a great way for JSCA to promote the bonds between Jacksonville and citizens with ties to our Sister Cities,” said Nancy Alvarez, Chair of the JSCA Soccer Committee. “We are creating a fun, family-friendly event for everyone to enjoy.”
