Petticoat-Schmitt Demobilizes San Marco Streetscape Project for the Holidays | Transportation
Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., has demobilized construction crews working on the San Marco streetscape improvements through Jan. 2, 2012. During the holidays, drivers will enjoy two-way traffic on San Marco Boulevard without detours or heavy construction equipment. The decision to demobilize was made by Petticoat-Schmitt to give the local business community a reprieve during the holiday season and to make holiday shopping and local events more accessible for the community.
“Our contracted obligations for the project were to halt construction for one week at Thanksgiving and two weeks at Christmas,” said Ryan Schmitt, president of Petticoat-Schmitt. “However, we understand the significant economic impact this time of year has on the bottom line of area businesses. We believe allowing for additional time without construction detours is a good investment into the community.”
Petticoat-Schmitt will absorb the cost of demobilizing the improvement project for eight weeks and will also work to recoup the lost time so that the completion schedule stays on track. Four of nine phases of the project, which began in September 2010, have been completed. The next phase of construction will begin just south of Riviera Street at European Street in January. The projected completion date of the project is Fall 2012.
“We are very pleased with the work of Petticoat-Schmitt and its commitment to the success of the San Marco Streetscape project,” said Councilwoman Lori Boyer, District 5. “With the successful completion of the first four phases of the project, we are well on our way to achieving the project’s goal to improve the infrastructure of the roadway while also adding to the aesthetics of the pedestrian areas of San Marco Boulevard.”
The San Marco Streetscape improvement project includes the installation of new storm drains, water mains, sanitary sewer, buried electric lines, roadway, sidewalks and new landscaping along with two roundabouts at Naldo Avenue and Landon Avenue. Additional project highlights include new historic reproduction streetlights, signage and brick pavers.
