JCA Ranks at Top of Jewish Community Centers

The Jewish Community Alliance participated in a study by the umbrella organization for the Jewish Community Center Movement that measures member satisfaction and ranks the agency against some of its peers.

And, for the second year in a row, members rated the JCA staff and facility extremely high in key categories in the study by the JCC Association titled “JCC Excellence: Benchmarking.”

The study analyzed 44 Jewish Community Centers in the U.S. and Canada and compared results in three groups based on annual revenue. Jacksonville’s group included JCCs in Miami, Austin, Kansas City, Brooklyn, Seattle, St. Paul, Long Beach, Phoenix, Tucson, Central New Jersey, Winnipeg and Toronto.

The Benchmarking Project collected data in late 2010 in four areas: financial, program participation, member feedback and staff feedback. The survey was conducted online by an independent research firm, Collaborative Strategies.

The JCA Fitness Center was ranked No. 1 by members when they compared staff and programs to other local facilities.

Members also ranked the JCA Early Childhood Education Department and the JCA Summer Camp highest in staff and program quality among the agency’s peer group.

It appears that the JCA made groundbreaking gains in member use of our agency with a majority using three or more programs in a year, indicating that the JCA is not a singular-based provider.

JCA members’ net referral rate was ranked No. 1 which is a testament to the unparalleled excellence in programs and staff engagement.

“JCC Excellence: Benchmarking” also found a high rate of satisfaction with their jobs among the JCA staff. This correlates with their confidence in the vision and leadership of the agency.

It is no surprise given the other results that the financial viability of the agency was rated No. 1 as well.

The vision of the founders and builders of the JCA has come to fruition. This is evidenced by the study’s results that show that the JCA contributes to the quality of Jewish life and is a major contributor to the well-being of the community as a whole.

“I’m very proud of yet another year of the high regard in which the agency is held by members and the results of the benchmarking study,” said Nancy B. Perlman, JCA Board President. “It is clear from the results that our members view the JCA as an extension of their own family.”

Myron I. Flagler, Executive Director of the JCA, said: “I am humbled and grateful that our members hold us in such high esteem. Our staff and leadership have worked together to create a very special place. We will continue to work hard to maintain our exceptional standing among our members and the community as a whole.”

“Similar to last year, the results of the benchmarking study show that the JCA ranks at, or near the top of most categories,” said Adam Marmelstein, JCA board member and chairman of the committee that monitored the project. “It quantifies what many of us know from our experiences at the JCA: that it is a top-notch facility run by an outstanding staff that is a tremendous benefit to our community.”

JCC Association is the umbrella organization for the Jewish Community Center Movement, which includes more than 350 JCCs, YM-YWHAs, and camp sites in the U.S. and Canada.

“JCC Excellence: Benchmarking” is funded by the JCCA’s Mandel Center for Excellence in Leadership and Management. The 2010 study was the sixth year in an ongoing project and the second year of participation by the JCA.
